Colletieae are a tribe in the family of buckthorn plants (Rhamnaceae), to which six genera are assigned. Most representatives of the tribe grow in South America, some species in North America, Australia and New Zealand.

description

The representatives of the tribe are usually clearly reinforced, upright shrubs or small trees. The branches are green and cross opposite. The roots form root nodules in which the plant enters into a symbiosis with nitrogen-fixing bacteria ( actinorrhiza ). The leaves are cross opposite and often fall off early. There are two consecutive buds above each leaf. Stipules may be missing, fall off early, or remain intact. The flowers grow axillary, singly or in umbels . Petals may be missing or formed. The ovary is subordinate, semi-subordinate or uppermost and usually two, less often three- compartment . The stylus is double or triple lobed or three columns. A nectar-forming disc may be absent or it may be ring-shaped, five-lobed and fused with the calyx tube. The fruits are fleshy or shaped as capsule fruits . The seed coat is leathery and has an endosperm .

The number of chromosomes in Colletia and Discaria is 2n = 22.

distribution

The representatives of the tribe grow mostly in South America, but there are also species in North America, New Zealand and Australia.
