Colletia is a genus from the family of Buckthorn family (Rhamnaceae). The representatives form almost leafless, thorny bushes. The range of the species is in South America.

description

The species of the genus Colletia form shrubs up to 4 meters high . The leaves are very small and fall off early. A thorn or a thorn-like branch with up to three branches forms from the upper bud of each knot . The lower bud forms a blooming short shoot. The flowers are four or five-fold. The flower cup is urn-shaped and falls off early. Petals are present. The anthers are usually two-compartment. The disc is formed on a downwardly rolled protuberance of the flower cup. The ovary is semi-subordinate, usually three and less often fourfold. Capsules are formed as fruits , which break open explosively.

Colletia is a genus from the family of the Buckthorn family (Rhamnaceae), in which they are of the tribe Colletieae is assigned. Antoine Laurent de Jussieu has the genre in his 1789 Genera Plantarum scientifically valid first described .
