Adolphia californica is a species of plant from the genus Adolphia , whichincludes only 1 to 2 species,in the family of buckthorn plants (Rhamnaceae). It isnative tosouthwest North America.

description

Adolphia californica are almost leafless plants up to 3 meters tall. A shoot or a compound inflorescence is formed from the first eye of each node , and a sting emerges from the following one .

The hairy flowers are in three- to seven-flowered cymes . The bell-shaped flower cup also survives the fruiting period, the discus that has grown together with its lower part is inconspicuous. Unlike many genera of the family , petals are present. The filaments are toward the outer end knee-shaped, the dust bag vierfächrig. The ovary is semi-subordinate and triple. The fruits are explosive capsules .

distribution

Adolphia californica is native to southwestern North America. Their distribution area is in Baja California and the US state California , where the plant occurs in a northerly direction about to San Diego .

Systematics

The genus was first described in 1837 by Carl Daniel Friedrich Meisner ; he also described a kind of Adolphia infesta . The description of the species Adolphia californica was given by Sereno Watson in 1876. Within the buckthorn family , Adolphia californica is classified in the tribe Colletieae .
