Retanilla is a genus from the family of Buckthorn family (Rhamnaceae). The representatives form leafy or almost leafless shrubs. The range of the species is in South America.
description
The species of the genus Retanilla form up to 4 meters high, leafy or almost leafless, thorny or unreinforced shrubs . One or two buds lie above the leaves . The flowers grow individually and terminally or three to five rarely seven flowers form cymes . The single flowers are downy hairy and four or five-fold. The flower cup is bell-shaped or urn-shaped, hairy on the inside, falls off early or is permanent. The petals are cap-shaped and partially cover the anthers . The stamens are kinked at their end, the anthers are two-sided. The discus is only indistinctly developed. The lower part of the flower cup gives off nectar . The ovary is semi-subordinate and two or three - rarely fourfold. The fruits are a bit fleshy.

Systematics and research history
Retanilla is a genus from the family of the Buckthorn family (Rhamnaceae), in which they are of the tribe Colletieae is assigned. Adolphe Brongniart reorganized the genre in 1826 in his Memoire sur la Famille des Rhamnees . The species were previously called Section Colletia sect. Retanilla . DC. assigned to the genus Colletia .
According to Kubitzki, four types are distinguished, the Plant List indicates the following types:

- Retanilla patagonica (Speg.) Tortosa
- Retanilla stricta Hook. & Arn.
- Retanilla trinervia (Gillies & Hook.) Hook. & Arn. : It occurs in Chile.
