Divine Decay is a Finnish thrash metal band from Helsinki that was formed in 1999.

history

The band was founded in 1999 by guitarists Alec Hirst-Gee (drummer for Suburban Tribe and The Scourger ) and Paul (bassist for Hybrid Children ). A short time later, drummer Juhana "Pätkä" Rantala, an ex-member of HIM , joined the band, followed shortly after by bassist Toni Grönroos ( Am I Blood ). Since the search for a singer was unsuccessful, Hirst-Gee also took over the vocal position. Together they recorded the first demo with Janne Joutsenniemi ( Stone , Suburban Tribe), which consisted of five songs and was called The Batcave Sessions . As a result, the group gained increased attention, as a result of which they appeared as an opening act for bands like Children of Bodom , Sentenced and Stone.

The band then developed new songs and went to MD Studios with Janne Joutsenniemi and to Crazy Crane Studios in Helsinki in June 2000. The album was mixed by Mikko Karmila . In the summer the band played at the Tuska Open Air Metal Festival and Ilosaari Rock with bands like My Dying Bride . The recordings were finished in August. The group reached a contract with Osmose Productions , so Songs of the Damned was released in spring 2001. In addition, a music video was created for the song Divine Decay . Interviews in Rock Hard , Metal Hammer and the Finnish Soundi followed . The bands also played gigs in Finland, including as the opening act for The Haunted . Work on the second album began in early 2002. Recordings began at MD Studios and continued at Crazy Cran Studios. The album was produced by Janne Joutsenniemi, mixed by Mikko Karmila. The album was mastered by Smoju at Tarzan Studios . Timo Nyberg (ex- Gandalf ) joined the band as the third guitarist . After the album was released in 2003, the members devoted themselves to other projects, so the band took a break, which continues to this day.

style

The band plays classic thrash metal, with the music being described as a mix of the works of bands like Testament and Xentrix .
