Djibril Yipènè Bassolé (born November 30, 1957 in Nouna , Upper Volta , today Burkina Faso ) is a politician from the West African state of Burkina Faso. He was the country's foreign minister from 2007 to 2014.

Career

Bassolé completed a military career until he became Deputy Minister for National Security in 1999. In November 2000 he took over the ministerial office in this department until he was appointed Foreign Minister of Burkina Faso on June 10, 2007 by Prime Minister Tertius Zongo as successor to Youssouf Ouédraogo .

On May 9, 2013, Bassolé involuntarily caused a sensation when he fainted during a meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu in Ankara and had to be taken to a hospital. But he was able to resume his official duties a little later.

After the fall of President Blaise Compaoré , he lost office in October 2014. He intended to run in the presidential elections in October 2015, but was removed from the list of candidates by the Constitutional Court on September 10, 2015. After the failed coup by Gilbert Diendere, Bassolé's assets were also blocked on September 26, 2015.
