Dmytro Grabovskyy ( Ukrainian Дмитро Грабовський , in Slavic transcription: Dmytro Hrabowskyj ; also in the Russian form of the name Дмитрий Грабовский Dmitri Grabowski ; born  September 30, 1985 in Simferopol , Soviet Union , was an Israeli cyclist until January 23, 2017 ) ;  was an Israeli cyclist until January 23, 2014 .

Career

Dmytro Grabovskyy caught international attention for the first time at the 2003 UCI Road World Championships , where he finished second in the 21 km individual time trial of juniors . Two years later he was also U23 European time trial champion in Salzburg in 2005 . At the U23 World Championships in Madrid in September of the same year , he won the road race title as the sole outlier and was runner-up in the time trial.

He then signed a contract with the UCI ProTeam Quick Step from 2007 and stayed there until the end of the 2008 season. In 2009 he switched to the Italian Professional Continental Team ISD-Neri and competed in the 2009 Giro d'Italia , which he called 67th finished. In the stage race Tirreno-Adriatico 2010 he won the mountain classification. He then suffered a serious fall and had to end the season. He reported serious alcohol problems during his time as a neoprofi , as a result of which he almost lost his life several times to alcohol poisoning . He stayed with ISD-Neri until the end of August 2010 and then moved to the Ukrainian ISD Continental team until the end of the 2011 season .

Grabovskyy became an Israeli citizen and was then primarily successful in races on the Israeli cycling calendar. In 2013 and 2014 he won the overall ranking of the Apple Race , in 2013 the individual time trial of the Maccabiade and in 2014 the Hets Hatsafon .

He died of a heart attack on January 23, 2017 .
