The Dohlenbach waterfall , also known as the Elmlisberg waterfall , is located in the Central Black Forest in Baden-Württemberg .

Location and course

The waterfall and the entire catchment area of ​​the Dohlenbach are located in the Kinzigtal district of the city of Wolfach . The closest city center is Schiltach, 3 kilometers away in the southeast.

The Dohlenbach flows into the Kinzig at the hamlet of Vor Leubach as a small right tributary . It rises in the high meadow basin of the hamlet of Elmlisberg , then flows about a kilometer to the south and then plunges abruptly into a gorge-like valley facing southeast . The waterfall formed here consists of four inclines, in which the Dohlenbach of about 545  m above sea level. NHN to about 515  u m. NHN falls around 30 meters; the highest step is over five meters high. At the waterfall there is flaser gneiss , whose predominantly horizontally and vertically directed network of fissures has led to the sometimes stair-like gradation of the waterfall.

Accessibility and protection

The waterfall has not been developed for tourism and is natural. The lowest level is accessible on paths; the other levels are difficult to reach.

The Dohlenbach waterfall is protected as a geotope (No. 6766 in the geotope cadastre of the Freiburg Regional Council ). In the vicinity of the waterfall there are scree slopes with a high biotope value, which are protected as "Section 32 - biotopes ".
