Dollands Moor is the name of the depot at the British exit of the Eurotunnel under the English Channel to the European continent. It is just west of the car loading shuttle terminal and south of the M20 motorways near Folkestone in Kent .

At the depot, the trains are inspected before they enter the tunnel and the customs formalities are dealt with. Locomotives can also be changed here. The station has its counterpart on the French side with the Calais-Fréthun station . The station is currently run by DB Cargo UK .

The depot was put into operation in 1988 before the opening of the Eurotunnel. The depot has a total of eight tracks as well as five passing tracks. All tracks are electrified with 25 kV alternating voltage , and connections to the west are additionally supplied with a conductor rail with 750 V direct voltage . This allows access to the South Eastern Main Line via the Saltwood Junction to Sandling Station . At the opening, the Railfreight Distribution station , the goods division of the then state-owned British Rail , was operated by EWS (English, Welsh & Scottish Railway) after British rail privatization , which has since been renamed DB Cargo UK.

migration

The increased numbers of migrants due to the refugee crisis are also noticeable in Dollands Moor. There are more and more operational disruptions as numerous people attempt to travel from France to England on freight trains. Dollands Yard is used to "get out" or to drive through, with sometimes life-threatening places in and on the freight wagons as hiding places.
