Gangdolmen

The Dolmen de la Carena is located with five other dolmens in Sant Pere de Rodes near Vilajuïga or Figueres in the Comarca Alt Empordà in the province of Girona in Catalonia in Spain . The dolmen of Vinyes Mortes are about 500 m to the east .

Like the nearby dolmen, the rectangular north-east-south-west oriented dolmen has a chamber made of several bearing stones (here supplemented by dry masonry ) and a capstone of 2.65 × 2.3 m made of gneiss . The north-western bearing stone of the chamber carries two bowls .

The other dolmens

The more disturbed dolmen "Caigut 1" is 240 m away on the other side of the valley at the same height. It is a trapezoidal duct dolmen whose sides and roof have collapsed but are in place.

About 100 m further are the remains of the "Caigut 2" duct dolmen. Of all the megalithic structures in the region, it is the most damaged as only two plates have survived.

The northeast-southwest oriented "Dolmen de les Ruïnes" is not far from the Dolmen de la Carena and next to the Dolmen de la Talaia. It is a rectangular duct dolmen that has collapsed on one side. It has six side panels and a sloping ceiling made of gneiss .

The north-east-south-west oriented "Dolmen de la Talaia" is about 30 m away and is a Catalan gallery in V-shape. It consists of five bearing stones and a 2.4 × 1.95 m ceiling slab made of gneiss.

The northeast-southwest oriented "Dolmen del Garrollar" is a rectangular passage dolmen. Of all the facilities in the valley, it is the one that has been modified the most to turn it into a hut. It has three bearing stones and a 3.6 × 2.7 m ceiling slab made of gneiss.

The path that leads to the dolmen begins about 800 meters behind the last houses in Vilajuïga. After about 1.5 km up the mountain slope, the Vinya del Rei dolmen is right next to the path.
