description

It has an unusually large (40 m²) square chamber, in front of which there is a short trilith entrance . The ceiling slab, which is usually only supported by two supporting stones, is broken into four parts and measures around 7.0 mx 7.9 m, is 70 to 80 cm thick and is considered the largest in France , alongside that of the Dolmen of Bagneux . The estimated weight is given as around 70 tons.

About a century ago the ceiling plate was split into four pieces. The local farmers claim that this caused lightning. In the 12th century the dolmen served as a chapel.

  1. The dolmen angevin is an allée couverte of the Loire type with a (retracted) trilith portal as an entrance, like the dolmen de la Pierre Folle in Bournand.
