The dolmens of Assier , which belong to the dolmens of the Midi , are located near Assier in the Lot department in the Occitania region in southern France . In France, dolmen is the generic term for megalithic structures of all kinds (see: French nomenclature ).

Bois des Boeufs

The dolmen in the Bois des Boeufs ( German  ox forest ) is still almost completely covered by its round hill measuring around 20.0 m. Only the 3.7 m long, 2.6 m wide and 0.3 m thick, approximately 8-ton capstone protrudes from the surface of the tumulus . This stone rests on two orthostats about 3.0 m long and 0.6 m high . The chamber is about 4.0 m long and 1.5 m wide and opens to the east. It has been a historical monument since 1889 .

Table de Roux

The Table de Roux (also called Pierre de Roux or Dolmen du Rousse), known as the “red dolmen”, is of the same design as the one in the Bois des Boeufs, but it has completely lost its hill due to erosion. Its ceiling plate, which is around 3.3 meters long, 2.5 wide and 0.3 thick, rests on two approximately 4.0 m long orthostats .

Dolmen de Garivals

To the west of the village of Assier is the Dolmen de Garivals behind a modern dry stone wall . The chamber measures approximately 3.0 m by 1.5 m, and the only remaining capstone, approximately 2.3 m long, 2.0 m wide and 0.3 m thick, covers only half of the chamber. It rests on two orthostats of unequal length 2.9 and 2.3 m. Much has been preserved from its hill.

Champ de Belair 1 - 3

Further dolmens and menhirs are to the northwest of the village, in the district of Mons on the "Field of Belair". Two dolmens are better preserved but difficult to find.

Champ de Belair 1 (also Mons 1)

A capstone about 4.0 m long and 2.0 m wide lies about 0.6 m above the ground on a somewhat disturbed chamber made of a mixture of stone slabs and dry masonry.

Champ de Belair 2 (also Mons 2)

The half-lying dolmen (rest), made of two bearing stones and a capstone, lies between the dolmen Mons 1 and Mons 3. A menhir that existed at this location was destroyed during the construction of the railway.

Champ de Belair 3 (also Mons 3)

The largely destroyed dolmen is overgrown in the area.
