The dolmen of Saint-Nectaire-le-Bas (also known as " Dolmen du Parc" or "Palet de Samson") is located in the "Parc du Dolmen" in Saint-Nectaire-le-Bas near Clermont-Ferrand in the Massif Central in the department, founded in 1890 Puy-de-Dôme in the southern French region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . In France, dolmen is the generic term for megalithic structures of all kinds (see: French nomenclature ).

The dolmen is located on a hill above the thermal baths and the Roman thermal baths on the Puy-de-Dôme volcano . The dolmen, made of volcanic rock, has a capstone of 3.5 × 2.5 m on five high bearing stones above a rectangular chamber.

To the southwest of Clermont-Ferrand lie / stand between 20 and 30 menhirs and dolmens , including the dolmen de la Pineyre , de la Grotte , Saillant and the L'Usteau du Loup (House of the Wolf) in Saint-Gervazy. The highest menhir in Auvergne is the Pierre du Tombeau also "Pierre Plantée de Montotoute" by Davayat (4.8 m - 16 tons) followed by the menhir Pierre Longue near Aydat (4.75 m - 15 tons) and the Pierre Plantée by Champeix .
