Runddysse outline sketch

The Vedsted Dolmen ( Danish Vedsted dysserne ) are located southwest of Haderslev south of Langdyssevej in the Syddanmark region in South Jutland in Denmark . Nine of the originally at least 14 verifiable systems are at least partially preserved. The six closely adjacent, more disturbed megalithic complexes are north of Femhøj.

The megalithic graves date from the Neolithic Age , around 3500–2800 BC. Chr., And are plants of the funnel beaker culture (TBK). Neolithic monuments are an expression of the culture and ideology of Neolithic societies. Their origin and function are considered to be the hallmarks of social development.

description

There are three obtained and a full-pflügtes long bed ( Danish Langdysse ), a Runddysse, a great dolmen ( Danish Stordysse ) and the passage grave ( Danish Jættestue ) Holmshøj.

The Runddysse

The partially disturbed round earth mound has a diameter of about 15.0 m and is still a maximum of 1.25 m high. 22 curbs are in situ . The missing ones have been replaced. The chamber once in the middle has gone out.

The Stordysse (large dolmen)

The large dolmen is located in the round hill and the small chamber has only one capstone that weighs seven tons. In the chamber there were remains of the original use ( flint tools ) and of subsequent burials from the Bronze Age . Shattered earthenware belonging to 109 different vessels was found in front of the entrance .

The Langdyssen

Of the three long dikes, only the one with a length of 115 m has many preserved curbs. The others (one of them 92 m long) are only preserved as more or less high mounds of earth. Each giant bed once had several chambers, some of which were arranged in pairs. The complexes were archaeologically examined from 1966 to 1967, and above all the rich ceramic foundations of more than 109 vessels could be reconstructed.

The passage grave

Holmshøj
Holmshøj

The passage grave ( Danish: Jættestue ) is a form of Neolithic megalithic systems , which consists of a chamber and a structurally separated, lateral passage. This form is primarily found in Denmark, Germany and Scandinavia, as well as occasionally in France and the Netherlands. The passage grave of Vedsted Holmshøj (also Vedsted Jættestue 2) is located in a 3.2 m high round hill with a diameter of about 26.0 m. The northern half of a burial chamber is preserved in the hill, which was restored in a questionable manner before 1927. A modern approach is from the east, while the original has disappeared. The seven north bearing stones in the chamber are original. In addition, two stones in the west and east have been preserved. They are covered by a huge capstone. The height from floor to ceiling is now 1.2 m in the chamber that has not been cleared from the floor. The southern end of the chamber is missing.
