Kathleen Rose , better known as Dolores and Rose Dolores , (* 1893 or 1894 in Wimbledon , England , † 7. November 1975 in Paris , France ) was an English model , showgirl and a Musical - actress .

Career

From 1917 to 1923, Dolores was the star of the Ziegfeld Follies on Broadway . She is seen as the first supermodel in the fashion world who helped shape the presentation style and expression of future generations. It was said that she never smiled during her fashion presentations and that her demeanor seemed distinguished and distant (English blank hauteur ). Florence Ziegfeld junior called her "The loveliest showgirl in the world".

On May 15, 1923, Dolores married the American art collector William Tudor Wilkinson in Paris. She ended her stage career at the same time.

After the career

After their marriage, Dolores lived in Paris for the rest of her life. She never took a stage again, but has been photographed a few times for magazines. She maintained a masculine appearance after her career. Therefore it was later assumed that she was a co-founder of the lesbian lifestyle. But there is no evidence of this. In 1925 the American press wrote that the couple lived on Île Saint-Louis , an island on the Seine.

During the Second World War she actively supported the Resistance during the German occupation of France . That is why she was detained for a short time. Her husband Tudor Wilkinson personally campaigned for her release when Hermann Göring visited him in his Paris apartment to view works by Holbein . Goering himself is said to have ordered Dolores' release.
