Domènec Sugrañes i Gras
Domènec Sugrañes i Gras - alternative spelling Domenech Sugranyes i Gras - (born December 12, 1878 in Reus , † August 9, 1938 in Barcelona ) was a Catalan architect and later a representative of Modernisme Català .
Sugrañes i Gras met Antoní Gaudí i Cornet for the first time in 1905 during his last planned year of study , who initially commissioned him to complete the work in Bellesguard . There he was mainly responsible for the benches adorned with mosaics in front of the door, the ornamental fountain and the design of the stairwell. Due to the rapidly growing relationship with Gaudí, on whose work he worked intensively in the following years, he did not acquire the degree of architect until 1912. He was intensively involved in all other Gaudí projects - in particular in the construction of the Sagrada Família church , where he Was construction management after Gaudí's death in 1926 until the arson attack in 1936 and was thus responsible for the completion of the birth facade. He earned the trust of his teacher and mentor, so that after Gaudí's death he was appointed as his executor.
Other important works by Sugrañes are:
- Plaça de Braus de la Monumental (bullring in Barcelona, built 1913–1914, by Manuel Joaquim Raspall i Mayol , expanded in 1916 by Ignasi Mas i Morell , together with Domènec Sugrañes i Gras)
