Domenico Starnone (* 1943 in Saviano ) is an Italian writer , screenwriter and journalist .

Life

Starnone writes a. a. for the features of the newspapers L'Unità and Il Manifesto and for satirical magazines such as Cuore and Tango . The topics are generally shaped by his professional activity as a teacher. He is particularly interested in teaching Italian and history .

As a screenwriter, he was mainly involved in the following films: La scuola (German: Die Schule ; 1995) by Daniele Luchetti , Auguri, Professore ( congratulations, Mr. Teacher!; 1997) by Riccardo Milani and Denti ( teeth ; 2000) by Gabriele Salvatores .

His most acclaimed book is Via Gemito , which won the Premio Strega in 2001 .

Starnone is married to the translator Anita Raja , about whom it is said that she publishes under the pseudonym Elena Ferrante . The computer linguist Jacques Savoy argues with the help of computer-aided stylometric methods that Starnone is behind this pseudonym.
