Anita Raja

Anita Raja (born 1953 in Naples ) is an Italian translator .

Life

Anita Raja is the daughter of Golda Petzenbaum, a Jew, who fled the German Reich to Italy in 1937, and of the Neapolitan Renato Raja. She grew up in Rome from 1956 and studied literature. Raja is married to the writer Domenico Starnone . In 2016, it was claimed that she was the author of the novels published under the pen name Elena Ferrante .

Raja has translated literary works from German into Italian, including many works by Christa Wolf . Her translations also include works by the writers Hermann Hesse , Ilse Aichinger , Irmtraud Morgner , Sarah Kirsch , Christoph Hein , Hans Magnus Enzensberger , Veit Heinichen and Bertolt Brecht . She wrote numerous articles on Italian and German literature and the problems of translation. In 2008 she received the German-Italian translator award .
