Gerhard Kofler

Gerhard Kofler (born February 11, 1949 in Bozen ; † November 2, 2005 in Vienna ) was a writer from South Tyrol . He wrote poetry and essays in Italian and German.

Life

Kofler grew up in Brixen , studied German and Romance languages in Innsbruck and Salzburg and lived as a writer and literary critic and as general secretary of the Graz Authors' Assembly in Vienna.

Numerous publications, including the extensive poetry collections Poesie von Meer und Erde in 2000 and Poetry from Sea, Earth and Heaven - Poesie di mare, terra e cielo 2003. Most recently - posthumously in 2007 - the Klagenfurt Wieser Verlag published this exclusively in Italian wrote a notebook about New York from a distance with a German translation by Leopold Federmair .

Gerhard Kofler translated poems a. a. by HC Artmann , Gerald Bisinger , Ernst Jandl , Friederike Mayröcker and Gerhard Rühm into Italian. Kofler et al. Translated from Italian a. Umberto Saba , Aldo Palazzeschi and Domenico Starnone .

His poems have been translated into English, Spanish, Russian, Greek, Slovak, Hungarian, Slovenian, Romanian, Lithuanian, Macedonian, Bulgarian, Dutch and Arabic.

On November 2, 2005, Gerhard Kofler died of cancer in Vienna and was given an honorary grave dedicated by the City of Vienna in the Ottakringer Friedhof (group 2, row 7, number 1 A).
