Leopold Federmair

Leopold Federmair (born August 25, 1957 in Wels in Upper Austria ) is an Austrian writer and literary translator .

Life

Leopold Federmair grew up in Sattledt and studied journalism , German and history from 1975 to 1985 at the University of Salzburg . In 1985 he was with a thesis on Johann Christian Günther Doctor of Philosophy PhD . From 1985 to 1993 he worked as a lecturer for the German language in France, Italy and Hungary. In addition, from 1989 he traveled regularly to Latin America . From 1993 to 1999, Federmair lived as a freelance writer in Vienna , then in Buenos Aires . Federmair has lived in Hiroshima since 2006 , is married and has a daughter.

Federmair is a writer of novels and essays ; he also translates from French , Spanish and Italian . Experiences from his life in Japan also flow into his literary work. In addition to personal observations, there are references to classical Japanese literature .

Federmair is a member of the IG authors authors and the IG translators translators . He received u. a. 1996 a working grant from the City of Vienna, 2005 the Adalbert Stifter grant from the State of Upper Austria, 2012 the Austrian State Prize for literary translations. Federmair took part in the Ingeborg Bachmann Competition in Klagenfurt in 1997 and 2012 .
