Life

Prat was born the son of the amateur guitarist Tomás Prat Puig. He received his first musical training at the Escuela Municipal de Música in Barcelona. From 1898 to 1904 he studied guitar with Miguel Llobet and Francisco Tárrega . In 1904 he moved to Argentina and in 1907 settled in Buenos Aires as a guitar teacher. He spread the Tárrega school there. Domingo Prat was married from 1909 to the guitarist Carmen Farré Ors de Prat, daughter of León Farré Duro, who worked for him as an employee. In 1934 he published the lexicographically not consistently objective, but still used today as a standard work "Diccionario de Guitarristas" in an edition limited to 1605 copies. Through his work he became, alongside Julio Salvador Sagreras, the most important guitarist in Buenos Aires at the beginning of the 20th century. Prat opened a conservatory in Haedo and taught many well-known guitarists, including María Luisa Anido (from 1914).
