Dominic Hannigan ( Irish Doiminic Ó hAnnagáin , born July 1, 1965 in Drogheda , Ireland ) is an Irish politician of the Irish Labor Party .

Life

After finishing school, Hannigan studied civil engineering at University College Dublin and then moved to City University London , where he completed his studies with a master's degree in transportation science. Hannigan also earned a Masters in Finance from the University of London . His career began as a consultant with an engineering firm and as a planner for Camden Council .

From 2004 to 2007 Hannigan was a member of Meath County Council . During this time he ran in the 2005 by -election to fill John Bruton's vacant seat in Dáil Éireann , but was defeated by Shane McEntee of Fine Gael . In the next regular elections to the Dáil Éireann, his candidacy was also unsuccessful. Instead, Hannigan managed to be elected to the Seanad Éireann that same year , of which he was a senator for the Irish Labor Party. In February 2011, Hannigan was elected to the 31st Dáil Éireann.

Hannigan is an openly gay and resident of Meath.
