Dominic Herbst

Dominic Herbst (born December 10, 1987 in Buchholz in der Nordheide ) is a German politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ) and has been the mayor of Neustadt am Rübenberge in the Hanover region since November 2019 .

Life

Herbst grew up in Neustadt am Rübenberge from the age of five. There he attended the cooperative comprehensive school Neustadt am Rübenberge , where he graduated from high school in 2007 . He then completed an apprenticeship as an insurance and finance businessman at Allianz Germany . In 2006, Herbst was elected youth mayor of Neustadt am Rübenberge.

In the local elections in 2011 he was elected to the city council of Neustadt am Rübenberge. In 2013 he became a parliamentary group spokesman for his party.

After his party colleague and previous mayor of Neustadt am Rübenberge, Uwe Sternbeck , decided not to run again, Herbst ran for his party in the mayoral election on May 26, 2019. With 25.4% of the votes cast, he achieved second place behind Christina Schlicker ( SPD ) who received 26.8% of the votes cast. In the subsequent run-off election he was able to prevail against Schlicker with 59.6% and 40.4%. He took office on November 1, 2019. Autumn is the second green mayor in a row.

Herbst was elected to the Presidium of the German Association of Cities by the main committee at the end of 2019 .
