Uwe Sternbeck (born September 4, 1962 in Hanover ) is a German politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ). From 2004 to 2019 he was mayor of the city of Neustadt am Rübenberge in the Hanover region .

Life

Sternbeck grew up in the Garbsen districts of Berenbostel and Horst and graduated from high school in Garbsen in 1982 .

After studying from 1984 to 1987 at the University of Applied Sciences for Administration and Justice in Hildesheim with a degree in administrative management (FH) , Sternbeck worked from 1987 to 1990 as a state official at the Lüneburg district government . He moved to the Lower Saxony Ministry of Agriculture , where he developed concepts for EU funding programs for rural areas . From 1991 to 1996 he worked in the State Chancellery in the field of energy and environmental policy as well as budget planning. From 1996 to 2004, Sternbeck worked for the Lower Saxony regional transport company , the central agency for local public transport in Lower Saxony, most recently as head of the financial management and controlling division.

On June 27, 2004 Star Beck was in a second ballot elected the first full-time mayor of Neustadt am Rübenberge. On September 11, 2011 he was re-elected, which was supported by Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen and the SPD . In October 2018, he announced that he would not run for another term in 2019. On November 1, 2019, he was replaced as mayor by his party colleague Dominic Herbst .

Sternbeck has been a member of the Greens since 1985 and is connected to the Christian faith. He has lived in Neustadt am Rübenberge since 1992, has been married to Anja Sternbeck for the second time since 2005 and has a son Myrko (* 1990) from his first marriage.
