Dominik Benedikt von Weber

Dominik Benedikt von Weber (born May 8, 1689 in Schwyz ; † March 15, 1766 there ) was a Swiss scientist .

Life

Weber was the son of the doctor and politician Jakob von Weber and came from the Schwyz country people family Weber . Weber's early training is unknown. However, he spoke eight languages. He came to Warsaw through his brother, the Capuchin Father Apollinaris von Weber . There he rose to the rank of colonel , became court chamberlain and councilor to Prince Jakob Louis Heinrich Sobieski , with whom his brother was court chaplain, and later to the prince educator of the future Polish king Stanislaus August Poniatowski . He received nobility degrees from the Polish king and the Russian tsar .

He later returned to the family seat in Schwyz. There he took over public offices, as is usual for members of the family, so he was judge of seven and nine. Mainly he devoted himself to mathematics , astronomy and the natural sciences . He was also a member of the Institute of Science in Bologna and had an extensive library.

Weber also had skills in the field of architecture, so he designed a building plan for a hospital in Schwyz, today's Spittel house at Herrengasse 17. He also wrote a treatise on a road from Brunnen over the Lukmanier to Biasca .

Weber's file is now in the Weber family archive in the Bern State Archives. The politician and doctor Franz Xaver von Weber was his brother alongside Father Apollinarius.
