Dominik Hrušovský (born June 1, 1926 in Veľká Maňa ; † July 27, 2016 ) was a Slovak clergyman and apostolic nuncio in Belarus .

Life

Dominik Hrušovský was ordained a priest on December 23, 1950 . Due to communist rule in Czechoslovakia, he lived in Italy. First he worked as a parish pastor in Belluno , from 1955 to 1962 he was professor of theology and philosophy at the seminary of Viterbo . In 1975 he became head of the Slovak Cyril and Method Institute. At the same time, Pope Paul VI granted him . the management of pastoral care for the Slovaks abroad worldwide.

Pope John Paul II appointed him on December 18, 1982 foreign bishop of the Slovaks and titular bishop of Tubia . On January 6 of the next year the Pope personally donated him episcopal ordination ; Co-consecrators were Eduardo Martínez Somalo , substitute for the State Secretariat , and Duraisamy Simon Lourdusamy , Secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples . In 1989 he was able to extend pastoral care for Slovaks abroad to countries that had previously been ruled by communists, such as Hungary and Romania .

On December 17, 1992 he was appointed auxiliary bishop in Bratislava-Trnava . On April 4, 1993 he was elected the first general secretary of the new Slovak Bishops' Conference. On April 15, 1996, he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Belarus and Titular Archbishop of Tubia . On April 4, 1993 the Slovak Bishops' Conference elected him its general secretary. On July 28, 2001, John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
