Dominik Kaindl O.Cist. (* November 8, 1891 in Sacherles ; † February 22, 1973 in Heiligenkreuz Abbey ) was a Catholic theologian, Cistercian , vicar general and church historian .

Life

He was born into a German-speaking family and baptized Franz. On August 4, 1911, he entered the Cistercian monastery in Hohenfurt and was given the religious name Dominik. He studied philosophy and theology at the Institutum Theologicum of the St. Florian Monastery and was ordained a priest on May 30, 1915 by Bishop Josef Antonín Hůlka . Studies followed in Prague, where he received his PhD in 1919 Sub auspiciis Imperatoris , and at the Pontificium Institutum Biblicum and in Rome, where he obtained his licentiate . In 1927 he taught philosophy at the Institutum Theologicum in Budweis . After completing his postgraduate studies in Rome, he taught the subject of the Old Testament in Budweis from 1932 to 1938.

Kaindl was on 21 December 1938 Abtkoadjutator with the right of succession but without the selected benediction to obtain because it was feared in Rome, Kaindl's official appointment as successor could his predecessor Abbot as "prejudice to the debt" Tecelin Jaksch be understood. Jaksch had been arrested by the Gestapo and imprisoned in Linz.

In 1939 Kaindl, who until then had already been Episcopal Commissioner for the German areas of the Diocese of Budweis , was appointed Vicar General of the newly created General Vicariate of Hohenfurt in the Diocese of Linz . The official journal of the Diocese of Linz lists his additional offices: Abbot-Coadjutor of the Cistercians of Hohenfurth, District Dean and District Treasurer, Expositus in Kienberg. The schematism of the Diocese of Linz also names the titles of consistorial councilor and episcopal notary as well as professor emeritus of the Old Testament . In 1946 Kaindl was relieved of his post as vicar general. The monastery was closed on April 17, 1941 by the National Socialist government; Kaindl continued to work as vicar general in parish pastoral care, because all parishes of the diocese of Budweis were incorporated into Hohenfurt Monastery .

In 1946 he had to leave his previous environment and emigrate to Austria. After a short time in the Cistercian monastery Rein , he went to the monastery Heiligenkreuz. There he worked as a professor of the Old Testament (1950–1964) and Patrology (1950–1970) at the Institutum Theologicum . From 1956 to 1966 he was subprior and pastor.

The necrology of the Heiligenkreuz Abbey lists him as Admodum Reverendus Pater Dominicus Kaindl, doctor et professor theologiæ, professus Altovadensis, ibidem quondam abbas coadiutor et vicarius generalis dioecesis Budvicensis, parochus em. Sanctæ Crucis et subprior .
