Dominique Dunne
Dominique Ellen Dunne (born November 23, 1959 in Santa Monica , California , † November 4, 1982 in Los Angeles , California) was an American film actress .
Life
Dominique Dunne grew up in privileged circumstances in Santa Monica. She was the only daughter and the youngest of the three children of the film producer and later author and journalist Dominick Dunne (1925-2009) and the actress Ellen Beatriz Griffin (1932-1997) and the younger sister of the now successful actor and director Griffin Dunne . Her uncle was the author John Gregory Dunne , Maria Cooper, daughter of Gary Cooper , her godmother. After her parents divorced, she moved to New York City and later to Beverly Hills . After high school, she studied acting at Colorado State University . After a year, she left university to pursue her career and took part in various television productions. In 1982 she drew attention as an actress with her portrayal of Carol-Anne's older sister in Tobe Hooper's horror film Poltergeist .
In the fall of 1981 she met her future boyfriend John Thomas Sweeney, the head chef of the elegant Ma Maison restaurant, in Los Angeles . Their love affair was considered delicate from the start. Often times, Dunne was beaten and abused by her jealous friend. In October 1982, she tried to end the relationship. However, Sweeney did not want to accept her decision and went to her that evening to convince her of his love. In the further course Sweeney Dunne strangled up to the occurring brain death . Dunne was admitted to the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and initially kept alive artificially. A few days later the machines were turned off and she died at the age of 22.
The mini-series V - The Alien Visitors Come , in which Dunne was supposed to play Robin Maxwell, was dedicated to her. Your role was taken on by Blair Tefkin .
Sweeney was sentenced to six and a half years in prison, but was released early after three years and eight months.
Dunne was buried in Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery , Los Angeles, as was later in 1988 Heather O'Rourke , who played her sister in Poltergeist , who starred as Carol Anne .
