Dominique Urbany (born March 29, 1903 in Rümelingen , † October 21, 1986 in Luxembourg ) was a Luxembourg politician (KPL). He was the father of René Urbany .

Life

Urbany, son of a worker, was a teacher by profession. In January 1920 he took part in the founding convention of the Communist Party of Luxembourg (KPL). In 1929 he was elected to the Central Committee of the KPL, in 1930 to its Politburo . From 1932 to 1965 Urbany was general secretary, from 1965 to 1976 chairman of the KPL. In 1934, under the Joseph Bech government , he and his brother-in-law Jean Kill were dismissed from school due to their membership in the KPL. In 1935 he participated as a delegate of the KPL at the VII Congress of the Comintern in Moscow . After the occupation of Luxembourg by German troops, Urbany went underground and participated in the resistance .

From 1945 to 1968 Urbany was a member of the Luxembourg parliament and chairman of the communist faction . From June 1946 to March 1947 he was Minister for Social Welfare and Health in the Government of National Unity. In November 1960 he took part in the International Meeting of Communist and Workers 'Parties in Moscow, and in June 1976 at the Conference of Communist and Workers' Parties in Berlin . In 1976 his son René Urbany replaced him from the post of party chairman. However, he himself remained honorary chairman of the KPL until his death.
