Marek Wacław Sawicki ^{? / i} (bornApril 8, 1958inSawice-Dwór,Masovian Voivodeship) is a Polish politician. He was Minister of Agriculture (Department of Agriculture and Rural Development) in the governments ofDonald Tuskfrom November 2007 to July 2012and held this office again from March 2014 to November 2015.

Life

Marek Sawicki graduated from the University of Education and Agriculture (today Uniwersytet Przyrodniczo-Humanistyczny ) in Siedlce in 1983 . He then worked as an assistant at the university from 1983 to 1985. In 1985 he became a member of the volunteer fire brigade and sat on the Voivodeship Presidium. From 1987 to 1988 he was the inspector of the sugar factory in Sokołów Podlaski . In 1988 he joined the United Peasant Party ( Zjednoczone Stronnictwo Ludowe ZSL). In Sokołów Podlaski he worked as a teacher at the agricultural school from 1989 to 1990. In 1990 he left the ZSL and joined the newly founded Polish People's Party ( Polskie Stronnictwo Ludowe , PSL). From 1990 to 1996 he worked as the community leader ( wójt ) of the rural community Repki in Powiat Sokołowski . In 1996 he graduated from the Institute of Agricultural Law of the Polish Academy of Sciences . He has held a seat in the Sejm since 1993 . In 1996/1997 he was State Secretary in the Ministry of Telecommunications. In his second legislative period from 1997 to 2001 he was a member of the Committee for Competition and Consumer Protection ( Komisja Ochrony Konkurencji i Konsumentów ). From 2001 to 2005 he was chairman of the parliamentary group of the Polish People's Party. In the 2005 election he was elected to the Sejm in his constituency of Siedlce with 6,527 votes. On April 28, 2006 Marek Sawicki defended his dissertation and received the doctorate . In the early election of 2007 he got 10,995 votes in his constituency.

Since November 16, 2007 he has been Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development in the Tusk I cabinet and initially retained this post in the Tusk II cabinet . On July 18, 2012, he submitted his resignation and was dismissed as a minister on July 26, 2012.
