Bogdan Andrzej Zdrojewski (born May 18, 1957 in Kłodzko ) is a Polish politician. From 2007 to 2014 he was Minister for Culture and National Heritage in Donald Tusk's government .

Life

From 1964 to 1972 Bogdan Zdrojewski attended Adam Mickiewicz Primary School No. 1 in Kłodzko. He then went to the vocational high school ( Liceum Zawodowe ) in his hometown , before his family moved to Breslau ( Wrocław ) in 1975 and attended vocational high school No. 4 there. From 1976 he was employed by the state railway company Polskie Koleje Państwowe , first as a junior machinist in the Wrocław Brochów railway works , and from 1976 to 1977 as a civil servant ( Adiunkt Kolei Państwowych ). From 1977 to 1979 he studied business administration , in 1978 he began a technical college education as a photographer, but broke it off in 1979. 1979 to 1983 he studied at the University of Wroclaw , which he left with a master's degree in philosophy. In 1982, during his studies, he married and the following year his daughter was born, and his son in 1984. Also in 1982 he became a member of the Independent Students' Union ( Niezależne Zrzeszenie Studentów ) and remained so until 1984. From 1983 to 1989 he was employed at the Chair of Sociology and Community Politics at the Wrocław Economic Academy ( Akademia Ekonomiczna we Wrocławiu ). In 1982 he also began his cultural studies, which he completed in 1987 with a master's degree ( mgr Kulturoznawstwa ). In 1985 he had to interrupt this activity for his military service, which he did at Kędzierzyn-Koźle in an artillery department. In 1989 he moved to the Institute of Sociology at the University of Wroclaw. In 1990 he began studying for a doctorate and became President of the City of Wroclaw on June 4, 1990. This he remained until September 1, 2001. At the same time, he was a member of the municipal council from 1990 to 2001, from 1994 to 1997 a member of the supervisory board of Kredyt Bank SA and from 1997 to 2000 Senator of Poland . In 2001 he was given a seat in the Sejm and returned to the Sejm in the following election periods. From 2003 to 2005 he was also administrative director for Thyssen Polska . On December 5, 2006 he became chairman of the Civic Platform faction ( Platforma Obywatelska ) in the Sejm. In the parliamentary elections in Poland in 2007 he received 213,883 votes in his constituency of Wroclaw. On November 16, 2007 he was sworn in as Minister of Culture.

In the European elections in 2014 , he was the European Parliament voted.

Photography is one of Bogdan Zdrojewski's hobbies and he has presented his photos at various exhibitions.

Awards

Bogdan Zdrojewski was awarded the Order of Holy New Year by John Paul II . The German President awarded him the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class . The city of Wroclaw awarded him the title of honorary citizen Civitate Wratislaviensi Donatus in 2013 .
