Krystyna Maria Szumilas (born June 28, 1956 in Knurów ) is a Polish politician of the Platforma Obywatelska ( Civic Platform ). From 2011 to 2013 she was Minister of Education.

Life

She graduated from the University of Silesia in Katowice in 1983 in the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry . This was followed by a postgraduate course in computer science. From 1975 to 1991 Krystyna Szumilas worked as a teacher at elementary school No. 6 in Knurów. From 1991 to 1995 she was responsible for education in the city of Knurów. At the same time, Krystyna Szumilas was a member of the city council of her hometown from 1990 to 1994 and from 1998 to 2001 a member of the district council of the Gliwicki Powiat . In the 2001 parliamentary elections she ran for the Platforma Obywatelska and was able to get a seat in the Sejm for the first time . She also won a mandate in the 2005 parliamentary elections , with 16,105 votes, and the early elections in 2007 , with 27,100 votes . She was first Secretary of State ( sekretarz stanu ) in the Ministry of Education, and on November 18, 2011 she succeeded Katarzyna Hall as Minister of Education. She was removed from office on November 27, 2013.

Krystyna Szumilas is married and has three children.
