Sławomir Nowak

Life

Sławomir Nowak studied politics with a focus on international relations at the University of Gdansk . He also graduated from the Maritime University in Gdynia with a degree in management. During his studies Nowak started his own advertising company. From 1998 to 2000 he was an advisor in the Political Cabinet of Defense Minister Janusz Onyszkiewicz . From 1999 to 2002 he was president of the advertising company Signum Promotion . In 2002 he became Vice President of Radio Gdańsk where he was responsible for technology and advertising. He was a member of the Liberal Democratic Congress and the Unia Wolności before becoming a member of the Civic Platform in 2002. Sławomir Nowak was unsuccessful in the parliamentary elections in Poland in 2001 , but was able to move into the Sejm in 2004 as a replacement for Janusz Lewandowski, who had moved to the European Parliament . He was able to defend his mandate in the parliamentary elections in 2005 with 9061 votes and also in the early elections in 2007 with 65,993 votes . On November 16, 2007 he was appointed State Secretary of Prime Minister Donald Tusk's Office. Two years later, in October 2009, he resigned from this office. He then became deputy chairman of the Civic Platform faction in the Sejm. In May 2010 he became the chairman of the Citizens' Platform for Pomerania. Also in 2010, he became the head of the campaign team for Bronisław Komorowski in the presidential election . Subsequently, on September 29, 2010, Sławomir Nowak became State Secretary Bronisław Komorowskis , responsible for contacts with the Sejm and the government. To do this, he had to resign from his parliamentary mandate. On November 29, 2011, he was appointed Minister of Transport, Construction and Marine Economics in Donald Tusk's cabinet . In 2013, the public prosecutor accused him of not declaring a valuable watch as a gift and therefore demanded that his immunity be lifted. Sławomir Nowak then submitted his resignation as minister on November 15, 2013. Since October 2016 he has been working as a director at the Ukrawtodor Traffic Office in Ukraine . He was also granted Ukrainian citizenship.

On July 20, 2020, the District Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw announced the arrest of Sławomir Nowak by the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau in connection with alleged corruption, the management of an organized criminal group and money laundering. This was the result of a Polish-Ukrainian investigation that began in 2019 and examined, among other things, the acceptance of bribes in the award of tenders worth over 270 million euros. On the same day, the head of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine announced that Novak, as the head of Ukrawtodor, had accepted property benefits for road construction contracts.

Sławomir Nowak is married and has two children.
