Marek Biernacki (born April 28, 1959 in Sopot ) is a Polish politician of the Civic Platform ( Platforma Obywatelska ) and was Minister of Justice in the Tusk cabinet .

Life

Marek Biernacki grew up in Gdansk . He studied law and administration at the university there and graduated in 1985. From 1980 he was a member of the Ruch Młodej Polski organization . After graduating from university, he worked at the Museum of History in Gdansk and at the Department of Criminology at Gdansk University. From 1997 he was a lecturer at the university and taught law and history. In 1991, after the political change in Poland, Marek Biernacki became the liquidator of the property of the Polish United Workers' Party ( Polska Zjednoczona Partia Robotnicza , PZPR ).

In 1997 he got involved in the Akcja Wyborcza Solidarność and moved into the Sejm for them. From 1999 to 2001 Biernacki was Minister of the Interior and Administration ( Minister Spraw Wewnętrznych i Administracji ). From 2002 to 2004 he was Vice Marshal of the Pomeranian Voivodeship . In the parliamentary elections in 2005 he moved into the Sejm for the citizens' platform and he was also able to win a seat in the Sejm in the early elections in 2007 . From April 29, 2013 to September 22, 2014, Biernacki was Minister of Justice in the Tusk II cabinet, succeeding Jarosław Gowin .

After he had voted against a liberalization project on abortion supported by his party in the Sejm in January 2018 , he was excluded from the citizens' platform.
