Jerzy Miller (born June 7, 1952 in Krakow ) is a non-party Polish politician. From October 2009 to November 2011 he was interior minister in the cabinet of Donald Tusk .

Life

Miller studied at the Cracow Mining and Metallurgy Academy ( Akademia Górniczo-Hutnicza ) in the department for electronics, electrical engineering and automation. From July 1990 to August 1991 Miller was head of the organization and auditing department in the Krakow Voivodeship Office . In December 1991 he became director of the Voivodeship Office and from January 1993 to January 1998 Jerzy Miller was Deputy Voivodeship of the Cracow Voivodeship. In February 1998 he became Undersecretary ( podsekretarz ) in the Polish Ministry of Finance, later he became State Secretary , and thus also Deputy Minister of Finance, and remained so until July 2000. During this time, he was also the agent for the decentralization of public finances in Jerzy Buzek's government . From 2001 to 2003 he was an advisor to the board of the Narodowy Bank Polski ( National Bank of Poland ). In 2003 he was chairman of the Agricultural Restructuring and Modernization Agency for three months. From 2003 to 2004 Miller was Director of the Department of Public Communication ( Komunikacji Społecznej Department ) and in 2004 he was also a member of the National Bank's Board of Directors. From 2004 to 2006 Jerzy Miller was President of the Polish Health Fund ( Narodowy Fundusz Zdrowia , NFZ). For his dismissal from the position of head of the health fund, the ruling party Prawo i Sprawiedliwość ( Law and Justice ) changed the relevant law, which then made it possible for him to be dismissed by the prime minister instead of by the council of the health fund. From December 2006 he was deputy mayor of Warsaw. From November 29, 2007 to October 14, 2009 he was voivode of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship with the support of the Platforma Obywatelska ( Civic Platform ) . On October 14, 2009 he became Minister of the Interior as successor to Grzegorz Schetyna . After the parliamentary elections in 2011 he left the government and was voivode of Lesser Poland again until 2015.
