Donald "Don" Branson (born June 6, 1920 in Rantoul , † November 12, 1966 in Ascot ) was an American racing driver .

Career

Don Branson started twice in his career at the Indianapolis 500 , which was classified as the Formula 1 world championship race from 1950 to 1960 . In 1959 he retired when he first raced a Phillips - Offenhauser on the 112th lap with a defect in the torsion bar. The following year he competed again with a Phillips Offenhauser. Starting the race from eighth place on the grid, with fourth place he achieved his only place in the Formula 1 points and three points for the drivers' world championship. He died in a racing accident in November 1966.
