Don Davis (jazz musician)

Don J. Davis (* around 1950) is an American jazz musician ( woodwind instruments ).

Live and act

Davis studied composition and saxophone at Berklee College of Music in Boston; In 1975 he continued his studies at the Creative Music Studio in Woodstock (New York) . During this time he worked a. a. with Michael Mantler ( 13 for Piano and Two Orchestras , 1975), Daevid Allen's Formation New York Gong (album About Time , 1979) and the band Material ( Temporary Music 1 , 1979) led by Bill Laswell . In 1979 he performed with Karl Berger's Woodstock Workshop Orchestra at the Donaueschinger Musiktage . In 1980 he moved to New York City and played in the downtown scene there with various jazz and rock bands and became a member of the Microscopic Septet, the u. a. also included Phillip Johnston , David Sewelson , David Hofstra and Richard Dworkin . In the following years Davis u. a. with Marc Black band, Davis and Deleault, John Lindberg 's TriPolar, Karl Berger, FD Reeve, Carla Bley , the Walter Thompson Big Band and LL Cool J . In 1993 he moved to New Hampshire and taught woodwind instruments at the Manchester Community Music School and the High Mowing School in Wilton, New Hampspire. In the field of jazz he was involved in 18 recording sessions between 1975 and 2014.
