Don Sharpe

Donald "Don" Sharpe (* 20th century ; † 2004 ) was a British sound designer who not only won an Oscar for best sound editing but also a British Academy Film Award (BAFTA Film Award) for best sound .

Life

Sharpe began his career in the film industry in 1947, initially as an assistant editor for the film Enjoyment , before after 1954 he mainly worked as a sound designer and worked on the production of over ninety films.

He had his greatest success in the 1980s and together with Ivan Sharrock and Bill Rowe won the 1982 BAFTA Film Award for Best Sound in The Beloved of the French Lieutenant (1981) by Karel Reisz with Meryl Streep , Jeremy Irons and Hilton McRae in the Leading roles .

For the science fiction film Aliens - The Return (1986) by James Cameron with Sigourney Weaver , Carrie Henn and Michael Biehn , he won the Oscar for best sound editing at the 1987 Academy Awards . He was also nominated for a BAFTA Film Award for Best Sound in This Film, along with Roy Charman and Graham Hartstone.

Another nomination for the BAFTA Film Award for Best Sound finally received Sharpe in 1990 along with Tony Dawe and Bill Rowe in Batman (1989) by Tim Burton with Michael Keaton , Jack Nicholson and Kim Basinger .
