Bill Rowe

William Oliver "Bill" Rowe (born February 2, 1931 in Crook , County Durham , † September 29, 1992 in the London Borough of Hillingdon ) was a British sound engineer .

Life

Rowe began his career in 1955 on the film staff . The crime comedy Ladykillers was one of his first films . From the mid-1960s to the early 1970s he worked a lot for British television and was involved in the television series Simon Templar , Mit Schirm, Charme und Melone and Department S , among others . As a result, he was involved in numerous successful British film productions and between 1973 and 1990 received a total of eight nominations for the BAFTA Film Award in the Best Sound category . He was able to win the award three times, 1980 for Alien - The uncanny creature from a strange world , 1982 for The Beloved of the French Lieutenant and 1985 for The Killing Fields - Screaming Land . In 1988 he and Ivan Sharrock received the Oscar in the Best Sound category for The Last Emperor .

Rowe died in 1992 at the age of 61; in the same year, Bitter Moon , the last film with his participation, was released.
