Donald Stevens (born September 22, 1963 in Rossland , British Columbia ) is a retired Canadian ski racer.
Career
At a young age, Stevens joined the Red Mountain Racers ski club in his hometown . His talent and potential for alpine skiing showed up early on. He became a member of the ski team of the province of British Columbia and successfully participated in the Canadian championships and in races of the Nor-Am series .
In 1985 he was promoted to the Canadian national ski team, in which a new generation of downhill runners was built in the wake of the Olympic Winter Games to be held in his own country under the aegis of the former Austrian downhill trainer Heinz Stohl , following the so-called Crazy Canucks .
In March 1985, in his first year, Stevens finished in the points at the World Cup descent in Furano, Japan . A year later he achieved further World Cup points with 15th place on the downhill in Whistler . In the same year he became Canadian downhill champion. With a single placement in the top ten in the pre-Olympic season, Stevens stayed in the shadow of his teammates Rob Boyd , Brian Stemmle and Felix Belczyk . Although he succeeded in making the jump to the Canadian Olympic team, he was only allowed to compete in the combined competition, in which the best Canadian reached 19th place.
Immediately after the end of the Olympic races, within nine days he finished three times in the top ten at the double downhill run in Beaver Creek and at the World Cup final in Åre , including second place in the downhill run on March 12, 1988, the only podium in his career in the World Cup.
