Donalee L. Tabern

Donalee L. Tabern (born January 27, 1900 in Bowling Green , Ohio - † December 31, 1974 ) was an American chemist . In 1936 he developed the fast-acting anesthetic Pentothal at Abbott Laboratories with Ernest H. Volwiler .

Tabern received his PhD in chemistry from the University of Michigan in 1924 . He then taught at Cornell University for two years before joining Abbott Laboratories in 1926.

After developing Pentothal, he focused on the development of radiopharmaceuticals at Abbott, which they first launched in 1948 and played a pioneering role.

In 1986 he was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame with Volwiler .
