The Danube Gorge near Beuron is a breakthrough valley on the upper reaches of the Danube between Fridingen and Sigmaringen in the former triangle of Württemberg , Hohenzollern and Baden . It corresponds to the natural area 092.31 Danube Gorge or Upper Danube Valley of the main unit 092 Baaralb and Upper Danube Valley .

In the area in the Upper Danube Nature Park , which is 14 km long as the crow flies, in a west-east direction, the Danube breaks through the southwest Swabian Alb . The best known and most scenic is the water gap in the vicinity of Benedictine pin Beuron where the through erosion of exposed rock walls of fossil-rich limestones of the Jurassic are high on either side of the river, partially in vertical and over 200 meters. Popular hiking trails with striking vantage points in the depths accompany the steep drop on its north side. The Danube Cycle Path leads on a generally undemanding route and mostly on natural surface with a few short, steep climbs through the valley. The Swabian Alb cycle path also runs through the landscape as a long-distance cycle path .

These lookout points have curious names such as Pfannenstiel , Hexenturm or Knopfmacherfelsen ; the latter offers a view of the Danube loop near Beuron Abbey.

Unlike the Danube Gorge near Weltenburg the name is geologically applicable here, because since the times of ancient Danube took the Alb and Alps uplift and the outflow from the Black Forest shifted more to the east.
