Désiré Dondeyne

Désiré Louis Corneille Dondeyne (born July 20, 1921 in Laon ; † February 12, 2015 ) was a French composer and conductor .

He completed his music studies at the National Conservatory in Lille and at the Conservatoire National Supérieur in Paris in the fields of clarinet , chamber music , harmony , fugue , counterpoint and composition with Tony Aubin, among others . From 1939 to 1953 he was (solo) clarinetist with the Musique de l'air . The La Musique des Gardiens de la Paix in Paris appointed him chief conductor in 1954. With this orchestra he brought authentic and trend-setting works for wind orchestras by Darius Milhaud , Kurt Weill , Marcel François Paul Landowski (1915–1999), Jacques Castérède , Jacques Ibert , Louis Durey (1888–1979), Florent Schmitt , Gabriel Fauré , and Charles Koechlin , Germaine Tailleferre at the world premiere and recorded them on phonograms. He also brought a whole series of compositions out of oblivion and performed them.

He was also an advisor to the French Ministry of Culture. He was a member of the jury for composition and woodwind at the Paris Conservatory . He has made a name for himself beyond France for the dissemination of authentic literature for wind orchestras .
