Doppel-U (born October 8, 1982 in Jena ; real Christian Weirich ) is a German rapper . Since 1999 he has been active in various rap crews, freestyle battles and gained stage experience a. a. as opening act for Wu-Tang Clan , Dendemann and Spax . In 2005 he founded his own independent label, U-Quadrat.

life and work

Parallel to his own label U-Quadrat, he founded the project Rap Makes School as a registered trademark - a combination of concert and rap workshop based on classical literature as an alternative to German lessons and at the same time conveying values. He travels around the world with his poetry settings and the resulting work in schools, universities, libraries and Goethe Institutes .

In 2007 he published a school audio book and in 2010 he set up the “greatest rap of all time” together with 7519 students. In doing so, he secured an entry in the Guinness Book of Records . He performs up to 150 concerts and workshops a year.

Since 2011 he has been concentrating on his own artistic work, creative workshops, studio productions and the release of albums in addition to rap makes school .

In the spring of 2012 he released the album U-Quadrat, which entered number 21 of the “most popular novelties in hip-hop and rap”. In October 2013, the Schwarz EP was released on CD and record.

Both the album U-Quadrat and the Schwarz EP were put under digital and physical distribution on Rough Trade / 360 Grad on the personal recommendation of Torch . Work on other productions has already started.

Doppel-U made around 1000 appearances in twelve years; ZDF ( Kerner , logo! ), ARD (Schillernacht), Phoenix, MDR (Thuringia Journal), SWR ( Tigerenten Club ), Deutsche Welle, KiKA (KIKA LIVE), RTL II (news). At festivals such as B. Szigget Festival Budapest, megaROCK -Festival Erfurt and in clubs MAU Club Rostock, Hall 02 Heidelberg, Kassablanca Jena, Franz. K .
