Dora Akunyili

Dora Nkem Akunyili (born July 14, 1954 in Makurdi , Nigeria , † June 7, 2014 in India ) was a Nigerian politician and information minister of her home country from 2008 to 2010. She was previously director of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control , NAFDAC in Nigeria. During this time, she devoted herself to combating counterfeit medicines and campaigned for more food safety . She was Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Nigeria at Nsukka (UNN).

biography

Akunyili was in on 14 July 1954 Makurdi in Benue State au Nigeria born to Paul Young Edemobi. She was raised Catholic in her parents' home . She married Dr. JC Akunyili, with whom she had six children. She received her bachelor's degree in pharmacy in 1978 and a Ph.D. the UNN. Since 1989 she has been working as a post-doctoral student at the University of London .

In 1995 Akunyili became the Secrétaire du Fonds pétrolier spécial pour l'aide aux démunis , a special fund for the support of the poor. She became a professor at UNN in 2000 and head of NAFDAC in 2001.
