The Protestant village church Ahrensberg is a listed church building in Ahrensberg, a district of Wesenberg in the Mecklenburg Lake District ( Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ). The building stands in the middle of a cemetery. The community belongs to the Evangelical Church in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

History and architecture

Two previous churches are documented, the current building was built under the patronage of the von Hahn family. A roof tower , which is integrated into the ship , sits on the plain half-timbered building in the west . Due to the dilapidation, the tower top had to be reduced in size in 1962, the pyramid helmet is covered with tiles. The framework is triple sealed. The figures Wilder Mann and Halber Mann can be seen on the corner struts in the tower and in the choir . The building, built in 1767, is accessible through a pillared vestibule. The church interior with a mirrored ceiling is vaulted like a barrel. The burial chapel for the von Voss family is a neo-Gothic brick building that was erected in the mid-19th century. The gable roof is hipped to the east, the tower is crowned with a pyramid roof. Brick-exposed infills determine the picture. The grid-shaped framework is stiffened with strut figures.

Furnishing

Most of the baroque furnishings date from the construction period.

  • The painting of the simple altar shows a scene in the Garden of Gethsemane , the marbling altarpiece is flanked by a column. Two putti are sitting on the cornice.
  • An angel figure carries the pulpit , on the sound cover sit two putti with tablets of the law.
  • On the south pore there are painted coats of arms, including that of the Hahn family and a wooden epitaph for the von Buch family .

Current state of construction

The wooden parts are damaged by severe insect infestation, and control measures are urgently required. The brick floor is very uneven. The half-timbered construction on the west gable and in the threshold and base area on the southern side is damaged, and in places the roof construction with collar beams at the base points is no longer in order.

The Evangelical Church in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania made € 6,000 available for emergency renovation measures, the total amount being € 9,000. During this measure, the southern side of the nave was renovated to ensure stability.
