The Protestant village church Bockelwitz is a classical hall church in the district Bockelwitz of Leisnig in the district of central Saxony . It belongs to the parish of Zschoppach-Dürrweitzschen-Leipnitz in the church district of Leisnig-Oschatz of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Saxony .

History and architecture

The church in the center of the village of Bockelwitz was built in 1797 by August Bormann and Gottfried Wartig from Wermsdorf using parts of a previous building from 1597. It stands in an old churchyard that is enclosed by a quarry stone wall and, together with the rectory and the village school, shapes the townscape of Bockelwitz. Restorations took place in 1977 (inside) and 1985 (outside). Further restorations were carried out in 2005 and 2008.

The structure is a plastered quarry stone building with a three-eighth end to the east and a slated roof tower with a curved hood and lantern . The sacristy is built on the east side. The flat-roofed, indirectly lit hall has two-storey galleries on the north and south sides and an organ gallery on the west side. A patronage box is located on the north side.

Furnishing

The church furnishings include a pulpit altar in the strict forms of classicism with two vases as a crown. Two glass paintings with depictions of Petrus and Paulus from 1895 by Joseph Weißenrieder are installed in the choir. A simple octagonal font is provided with an attachment as a lectern.

organ

The organ with a rococo- shaped prospectus is a work by Gottlieb Entzemann from the years 1797/1798 with 11 stops on a manual and pedal . Around 1900 the mixture was removed and an Aeoline 8 ′ installed. In 1917 the prospect pipes had to be handed in for war purposes, they were replaced by zinc pipes at an unknown time. In 1963 Reinhard Schmeisser carried out repair and maintenance work, with the Aeoline being removed and the mixture rebuilt. In 2006 the organ was restored again. The disposition is:
