history

The medieval church , which had become dilapidated in the 18th century , was replaced by a rectangular hall church with a hipped roof and roof tower in 1746 .

The weather vane with the initials AR ( Augustus Rex ) and the Saxon and Polish coat of arms - the landlord of Breitenhain was August III at the time of construction . , Elector of Saxony and King of Poland - was copied from the original in 1993.

Furnishing

A gallery is located on the north and south walls. The pulpit altar was moved to the left side of the nave in the 1960s due to its disrepair . The well-preserved Gothic winged altar from 1510 shows the Madonna on the crescent moon, with Saints Katharina and Barbara on her side and, on the outside, Aegidius and Nikolaus . On the outside one can see Boniface and Pankratius .

In the gallery is the organ, created in 1841 by August Witzmann from Stadtilm , with two manuals , a pedal and 14 stops . The prospect pipes were replaced after 1917.

The bells from 1443 and 1721 were also melted down during the First World War . Today's bells from 1919 and 1961 have an electric bell.
