Architecture and history

The church was built in 1552 as a half-timbered building . In the years 1722 to 1727, the outer walls of the building were massively renewed as baroque quarry stone masonry under Jakob von Schenck. The floor plan of the nave is rectangular. On the west side is the church tower, which is partly drawn into the nave. At its core, the tower may go back to the Middle Ages . In 1571/72 an octagonal curved hood with a lantern was placed on the tower .

The inside of the church is spanned by a shallow barrel. The Renaissance -Facilities comes in large part from the period around 1592. Especially the magnificently decorated with stucco, two-story glass-enclosed gallery rule is designed on the east side of the church. The wooden gallery rests on pillars. The parapet of the lower boxes is decorated with pilasters , herms, masks, cherubs and lions' heads. In addition, there is a sixteen-part ancestral sample of the donor and busts of three couples. The upper parapet is decorated with paintings. Below is the coat of arms of the couple Werner von Schenck and Sophie von Schenck, née von Krosigk. The coat of arms is surrounded by Moses Christ and half-length portraits depicting the evangelists.

On the southern wall there is a polygonal pulpit decorated with stucco in the same way as the manor's box . The staircase to the pulpit is decorated with drolleries . The pulpit itself is carried by a figure representing Moses. It is decorated with jewelry made of tendrils, herms and putti. There is also a memento mori as well as scenic representations of evangelists. Justitia is located below the sound cover in a scroll frame . There is an angel on the lid.

The chalice-shaped font dates back to 1592. It is also lavishly decorated with stucco and rests on a hexagonal support. Scrolls, herms and masks are used as decorations. The nodus is adorned with lion heads.

There is a two-storey gallery on the north side and a high gallery on the east side, which was built around 1850/60. The painted altar wings are late Gothic .

The organ loft dates from the 18th century. Above the altar , supported by composite columns, is the organ created by August Troch in 1856 . Probably at the same time the parish chair with latticed windows was built in the southeast corner of the church. The north wall of the church is decorated with a panel from the second half of the 15th century. It is the back of a former altarpiece wing on which the Last Judgment is depicted in front of a landscape.

In the church there are many tombs of the von Schenck family from the 16th to 18th centuries. Some of these probably come from Magdeburg . The tetzel box from the beginning of the 16th century is remarkable. The chest is made from one trunk and is said to have been in the possession of the indulgence preacher Johann Tetzel .

The monument includes the church surrounding former cemetery, together with its enclosure, and a of the fallen of the community WWI reminiscent war memorial .
