history

The village church in a watercolor by Carl Hummel (1860)

The history of the church goes back to the early missionary work in the area. An old trade route once passed the church. The church was first mentioned in 1510 and burned down in 1743, and in 1752 it was rebuilt. For a long time the church belonged to Burgau .

The Gothic choir windows in the vestibule of the church hall are a reminder of this early period. There was once the main entrance, which was moved to the west side with the portal in 1970 . During this construction project, the church received a porch with a community room on the upper floor, which can be opened like a gallery towards the chancel. However, the galleries built in 1752 over two floors were removed. In 1975 the church received an organ from the workshop of Rudolf Böhm ( Gotha ). The building was equipped with heating and sanitary facilities in 2004 and received a stair lift in 2006, which was financed by a donation collection by the Göschwitz fire brigade association.
